Meagan's Walk & Hug!
Meagan’s Walk is a community event that welcomes participants of all ages and abilities. The 16th Annual Meagan’s Walk and Hug takes place on Saturday, May 13th, 2017. You can join individually, or walk with friends and family, or team members. Participating in Meagan’s Walk is a meaningful way to honour the spirit of Mother’s Day, and to be part of a community that raises hope and awareness for an important cause!
Childhood cancer research is grossly underfunded. More children and young people are diagnosed with cancer than all other diseases combined. Brain tumours are the leading cause of cancer-related death in kids. Yet only 3% of the Canadian government's funding for cancer research reaches studies directed specifically towards better treatments and outcomes for these young patients. Our children deserve better.
Your support has an impact, funding ground breaking research that improves treatments and outcomes for young brain tumour patients.
What do we do when we participate in Meagan’s Walk & Hug?
Meagan’s Walk begins at Fort York National Historic Site, and follows a 5 km. walk route that leads to SickKids, where participants “Hug”, joining hands in a “circle of hope” around the perimeter of the building as a powerful and simple signal to all within that they are not alone.
Meagan’s Walk is family friendly, with entertainment and live music, as well as face painting and game and play areas for the children, and snacks for everyone.
Walk side by side with Meagan’s Walk youth ambassadors and their families, as well as doctors and researchers who are renowned for their expertise and work that are changing children’s healthcare throughout the world.
