The 2009 Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours
In 2009, Meagan’s Walk once again proudly participates as a member of the world wide awareness campaign, The 2009 Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours. A global community, groups around the world are determined and united in purpose: to improve the odds, change the outcomes for those people who live with brain tumours.
This is the third year that the International Brain Tumour Alliance has orchestrated a campaign of awareness and action that circles the global! For the 2009 Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours, between January 1 and November 2009, people around the globe are encouraged to take a walk, and then to 'pledge' the kilometers walked to the common and collective goal of circling the earth’s equator 5 times! A whopping 200,000 kilometres!
Yes, this is an ambitious number! However, the records show that participants in the Walk Around the World have become accustomed to exceeding expectations! Last year 152 organizations, world wide, including Meagan’s Walk, reported walking 215,883 km. – far exceeding the goal of three times around the world at the equator, 120,000 km.
This year, with participants in the 8th Annual Meagan’s Walk on Mother’s Day numbering 3000, Meagan’s Walk pledges 15,000 kilometres to the 2009 Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours.
By participating in the special project, Meagan’s Walk supports the International Brain Tumour Alliance (IBTA), an alliance of brain tumour support, advocacy and information groups around the world, including patients and their caregivers, researchers, scientists, clinicians, and allied health professionals who work in the field. For more information about the IBTA visit their website at www.theibta.org.
This world wide effort leads to greater collaboration, greater knowledge, greater hope! United in hope and determination, we can continue to make a difference!
