Meet Denise Bebenek, Founder of Meagan's Walk

Meagan's Walk: Creating a Circle of Hope grew from the community that embraced Meg and our family at the time of her diagnosis of a cancerous and inoperable brain tumour, during her treatment, and sadly, too, at the time of her death.

It was our family’s experience that taught us a lot about brain tumours - the leading cause of cancer-related death in young people under age 20.  I knew then that something had to be done to change this statistic to help our children and their families while journeying this path. To let them know that they are not alone.

My family and I were embraced by such a loving community and I felt we could expand on this to all give back to the other 'Meagans' awaiting support, and to the doctors, researchers and caregiving professionals who are all working so hard to bring us, step by step, closer to a cure.

The greatest gift we can give to a child who is suffering is to be with them, surrounding them, embracing them with hope, compassion and love.

At Toronto’s very own Brain Tumour Research Centre, amazing advancements are being made in brain tumour research and patient care. This incredible work is being done for our children.  There are promising results as they work day-by-day, and their research is truly global in scope.  We are extremely proud to be making such a significant contribution to this ground-breaking work.

Meagan's Walk's message is a 365 day a year message of hope ... for patients and families, doctors, researchers,  and all of those caring for our children.

Through our annual Walk and Hug, Gala, school programs and community events we are changing lives. We are united by hope and the sky is the limit to what we can achieve.

We may not be able to hug every person in every province and in every country but in many ways we are Embracing the World.  Our work and mission is providing support for the work being done around our globe to change the course of history for paediatric brain tumours - leading to improved care and outcomes for all the other ‘Meagans’ who are counting on us. Together we will continue to build that community of hope and compassion. And with the help of every single one of you our dream can become a reality.
